Singapore’s Central Area: Spotlight on Newton-Novena and Outram

Singapore’s Central Area: Spotlight on Newton-Novena and Outram. The Newton-Novena enclave and Outram neighborhood are two Central Area districts that are undergoing development, and they are the focus of this edition of EdgeProp Singapore. Both regions will profit from being close to a hospital and medical cluster that is part of a master plan.

It is the 17 ha HealthCity Novena, an integrated master plan for healthcare in the Newton-Novena area. When it is completed in 2030, it will link Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and other public and volunteer healthcare facilities. With the aid of HealthCity Novena, a comprehensive ecosystem that encompasses health care, research and education, commerce, leisure, and public services will be established. According to the 2019 Master Plan, further housing projects could be erected close to Novena HealthCity.

The 21.5km North-South Corridor project is one of Singapore’s greatest ongoing infrastructure initiatives (NSC). The NSC has been referred to as Singapore’s longest Transit Priority Corridor and is governed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The Transit Priority Corridor, introduced by LTA in 2017, combines dedicated bus lanes, broader pedestrian walkways, and dedicated bike lanes. The NSC’s goal is to reduce traffic along heavily traveled routes like Marymount Road, Thomson Road, and Newton Road, as well as the Central Expressway. Beginning in 2020, tunneling operations will allow for the NSC to be built beneath Thomson Road. It will help people in the Newton-Novena area once it is finished.

The main catalyst project in the Outram district is the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Campus, though. SGH will undergo significant modifications, and the new campus, which will cover 43 ha, will have connected zones for patient care, research, and education. It is a 20-year master development plan component. Outram will also benefit from better accessibility and connection with the opening of the third phase of the Thomson-East Coast Line, which includes the MRT Interchange Station at Outram, which will be connected to three lines.
